The Amateur Radio Emergency Service consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.
Auxiliary Communications is a group of volunteers - individuals and organizations that work with local and other government agencies to provide emergency communications support when they are needed.
When conventional communications methods fail, our amateur radio volunteers are there to keep information flowing. Amateur radio can be used under normal conditions but can also function completely independently of the internet, phone systems and power grid. An amateur radio station can be taken almost anywhere and set up in minutes. This makes it a valuable asset during emergencies.

"When Everything Else Fails. Amateur Radio often times is our last line of defense... When you need amateur radio, you really need them,": according to the Hon. W. Craig Fugate, Administrator of the US Department of Homeland Security, FEMA.
ARES/AUXCOMM meet monthly the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in Kinross. There are also additional training dates that are planned and announced in advance. For more information please use the contact us form.
